Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(i,iv,v)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies (apothecia) 2–8 cm high, depressed-lanceolate with gelatinous consistency, brown black, covered with black brown acute bristles, 180 × 8–9 µm in size; fertile part 1–2 × 0.5–1 cm in size, plane-cylindrical, on stalk 2–4 mm wide. Spores almost cylindrical, 100–120 × 5–6 µm in size with 13–15 septa, lying parallel in the ascus, brown. VIII–X.

Habitats and populations. On clay soils among mosses, in grasslands in the middle of woods and bogs.

Distribution in Bulgaria. Vitosha Region (Vitosha Mt – near the Aleko chalet).

General distribution. Europe, North America, New Zealand.

Threats. Habitat changes as result of wood plantations, livestock breeding, wood extraction, tourism, drought; restricted species range.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. The localities are situated on the territory of the Vitosha Nature Park and in a site of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Research into the number and range of the population; research on the biology and ecology of the species; inclusion in the national monitoring system of the biological diversity; preservation of the localities of the species.
