Conservation status. Endangered [EN B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv)].

Morphology and biology. Cap at first conical then umbonate, 1–2 cm in diameter, yellow brown, olive brown to dark red brown, lighter towards the margin, viscous to dry. Gills notched ochre brown to purple brown. Stipe cylindrical or curved, 3–10 × 0.2–0.4 cm, light yellowish at the top, dark red brown below, fibrillose furrowed. Flesh thin, olive brown. Spores ellipsoid to fusiform, 12–19 × 6–8 µm, purple brown. Fruit-bodies single and in groups, IX–X.

Habitats and populations. On acid soil in moss (Sphagnum spp.), in peat-bogs and wet coniferous forests (spruce – Picea, pines – Pinus).

Distribution in Bulgaria. Vitosha Region (Vitosha Mt – Chernata Skala locality), Rila Mts (near Sestrimo village, the upper course of Kriva River).

General distribution. Europe, Asia, North America, South America, S Africa.

Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by infrastructure development (tourism/recreation), fires, drought, etc.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. The known localities are situated on the territories of Vitosha Nature Park and Rila National Park and in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitats; regular monitoring.
