Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(i,ii,iv)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies perennial, effused, resupinate, 0.5–2 × 1–15 × 0.2–1 cm; sterile surface tomentose, zonate, chestnut brown, lighter to the margin. Pore surface yellowish to dark chocolate brown; pores angular. Tube layer light cinnamon; up to 1.5 cm thick. Hyphal system dimitic. Basidia clavate, 9–10 × 5–6 µm. Spores slightly twisted to cylindrical, 6.5–8.5 × 1.5–2 µm.

Habitats and populations. On dead trunks of spruce (Picea).

Distribution in Bulgaria. Balkan Range (Central – Vezhen chalet).

General distribution. Europe, Asia, N Africa, North America.

Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by agriculture (wood plantations), extraction (selective logging), and infrastructure development (tourism/recreation).

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. The locality is situated on the territory of the Central Balkan National Park and in a site of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; interpretation of species status through better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitat; study of the trends through monitoring.
