Conservation status. Endangered [EN B1ab(iii,iv)+2ab(i,iv)].
Morphology and biology. Cap at first convex then umbonate, 5–20 cm in diameter, creamy pink, light pink, darker in the centre, whitish towards the margin, slightly viscous to dry. Gills notched or slightly decurrent white or ochre. Stipe fusiform, 6–12 × 2-3 cm, whitish to creamy pink, white in the upper part. Flesh white with smell of perfume or cinnamon. Spores ellipsoid, 7–9 × 5–5.5(6) µm, colourless. Fruit-bodies single or in groups. IX–X.
Habitats and populations. On limy soil in warm deciduous forests (beech – Fagus).
Distribution in Bulgaria. Balkan Range (Eastern), Znepole Region (Konyavska Mt, Golo Burdo Mt), Vitosha Region (Vitosha Mt), Sredna Gora Mts (Western –Lozenska Mt), Rhodopi Mts (Central).
General distribution. Europe.
Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by logging, infrastructure development (tourism/recreation, transport), fires, acid rains.
Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. One of the localities is on the territory of Vitosha Nature Park. Some localities are in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.
Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitats; regular monitoring.
