Conservation status. Critically Endangered [CR B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv)].

Morphology and biology. Cap semi-globose to umbonate, 2–7 cm in diameter, light brown, grey-brown, olive brown; at first hygrophanous then dry, finely fibrillose scaly; margin thin, furrowed. Gills notched, slightly decurrent, whitish, light grey, thick. Stipe cylindrical curved at the base, 3–10 × 0.3–1 cm, whitish or yellowish, darker at the base, nude. Flesh thin, whitish to yellowish brown, with smell of nitrate. Spores ellipsoid, 7–10 × 4.5–5.5(6) µm, smooth, pale yellow. VII–X.

Habitats and populations. On sandy soils in grass habitats (pastures, meadows, and glades) and in the periphery of deciduous and coniferous forests.

Distribution in Bulgaria. Vitosha Region (Vitosha Mt – near Vladaya).

General distribution. Europe, North America.

Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by farming, stock breeding, wood plantations, infrastructure development (tourism/recreation, transport), industrial and house-hold soil pollution.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. The known locality is on the territory of Vitosha Nature Park and within a site of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitat; regular monitoring.
