Conservation status. Endangered [EN B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv)].
Morphology and biology. Cap convex to umbonate, often with a flat boss in the centre, 3–7 cm in diameter, yellow brown, orange, pink orange to pale reddish, whitish towards the margin, radially fibrillose, viscous. Gills slightly decurrent, rare, white. Stipe cylindrical, 5–8 × 0.8–1.2 cm, whitish to pale yellow, with a granular coating in the upper part. Flesh white. Spores broadly ellipsoid, 6–9 × 5-6 µm, colourless. Fruit-bodies in groups. IX–X.
Habitats and populations. On limy and sandy soils in deciduous forests (oaks – Quercus, beeches – Fagus).
Distribution in Bulgaria. Black Sea Coast (Southern – Maslen cape), Sofia Region (near Belopopintsi), Rhodopi Mts (Eastern – Padalo locality, district of Ivailovgrad).
General distribution. Europe, Asia, North America.
Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by agriculture, logging, infrastructure development (tourism/recreation, transport), fires.
Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. Some localities are in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.
Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitats; regular monitoring.
