Gyrodon lividus (Bull. : Fr.) Sacc.

Conservation status. Critically Endangered [CR B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii)].

Morphology and biology. Cap up to 15 cm in diameter, convex to flat, ochraceous yellow to greyish. Stipe central, cylindrical or tapering towards the base, greyish, rust brown or spotted reddish. Flesh pale yellow, slightly blueing when exposed to air. Pores short, decurrent, yellow; pores yellow, blueing when bruised. Basidiospores 5–7 × 4–5 μm. Mycorrhizal with alders (Alnus).

Habitats and populations. Woodlands with alders (Alnus).

Distribution in Bulgaria. Black Sea Coast (Northern), Pirin Mts (Northern); up to 900 m. Not found in the country since 1962.

General distribution. Europe, North America.

Threats. Forest cutting, habitat loss and degradation as a result of the intensive tourism and infrastructure development.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. Some localities are in protected areas (Aladzha Manastir Protected Site) or in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Sustainable management and conservation of the habitat and of the known locations. Survey and monitoring of the area of occupancy and the status of the populations.
