Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(i,ii,iv)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies perennial, widely effused, resupinate, up to 30–40 cm long and 2–3 cm thick; margin light grey-brown at first, then concolorous with the pores, 1–2 mm wide or lacking; context rusty to dark brown. Hyphal system trimitic. Basidia clavate, 10–30 × 4.5–6 µm; spores 4.5–7 × 3.5–4 µm, colourless. VI–XII.

Habitats and populations. On dead wood of conifers and deciduous trees.

Distribution in Bulgaria. Balkan Range (Central – Bozhentsi village).

General distribution. Europe, North America.

Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by agriculture (wood plantations) and extraction (selective logging).

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; interpretation of species status through better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitat; study of the trends through monitoring.
