Conservation status. Endangered [EN B1ab(ii,iii,iv)+2ab(ii,iii,iv)]. BDA.
Morphology and biology. Densely sericeous perennial herb with a woody stock. Stems simple or weakly branched, procumbent or ascending, 3–20 (40) cm. Leaves entire, up to 2.5–5 × 0.3–1.5 cm, oblanceolate to linear-lanceolate; basal petiolate, upper cauline subsessile, narrower. Flowers in axillary and terminal dichasia, with linear-lanceolate bracts. Sepals sericeous. Corolla 1.5–2.5 cm long, infundibuliform, pink. Capsule ovate, pubescent, 4-seeded. Fl. VI–VIII, fr. VII–IX. Reproduction by seeds.
Habitats and populations. Occurs in dry, open grassy and stony places and rock crevices. Forms fragmented populations with scattered single individuals or in smaller or larger groups.
Distribution in Bulgaria. Black Sea coast, NE Bulgaria (Taoushan Tepe near Nevsha), Toundhza Hilly Country (Slivenski bani); up to 200 m alt.
General distribution. S and E Europe, Mediterranean Area, the Caucasus, SW and C Asia.
Threats. Habitat deterioration or loss due to building works near settlements and rapid tourism development in the coastal area (trampling of plants; house-hold pollution).
Conservation measures taken. Protected species under the national Biodiversity Act. Some of its localities are included in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria”.
Conservation measures needed. Precise estimation of the population size and area of occupancy; studies on the species biology and ecology and threats in the particular localities; monitoring of selected populations; deposition of seeds to the National Seed Genebank in Bulgaria.
