Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(i,ii,iv,v)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies (apothecia) up to 10 cm in diameter, sessile, irregular, lumpy, smooth with folded yellow-brown outer surface; flesh soft, drying hard, at first white, maturing yellowish with numerous, irregular, wavy ochre lines with strong flavor. Spores globose, 22.5–30 µm in diameter, yellow, on the surface by irregular, acute or blunt pale brown spines, 3–4 µm long. IX–X.

Habitats and populations. Mainly on clay soil beside lakes, in lawns and in deciduous woods.

Distribution in Bulgaria. Vitosha Region (Vitosha Mt – Zlatnite Mostove locality), Rila Mts (Borovets locality).

General distribution. Europe.

Threats. Habitat changes as result of wood extraction, tourism, fires; restricted species distribution.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. One of the localities is situated on the territory of the Rila National Park. The localities are in sites of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Research into the species biology and ecology; inclusion in the National biodiversity monitoring system; preservation of the localities of the species.
