Conservation status. Critically Endangered [CR B2ab(iii)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies single or in groups. Cap up to 10 cm in diameter, hemispherical to convex, yellow brown, ochraceous to brown. Stipe cylindrical, tapering, concolorous with the cap, without network; stipe surface unchanging when bruised. Flesh yellowish, blueing mainly in the cap when exposed to air. Tubes and pores yellow, not blueing when bruised. Basidiospores 6–9 × 3–4 μm. Growing on dead coniferous wood, but suspected mycoparasite on the fungus Phaeolus schweinitzii with which species it is always associated.

Habitats and populations. Coniferous forests on dead coniferous wood. Known only from one locality, where it has not been found since 1982.

Distribution in Bulgaria. Rhodopi Mts (Central – Byala Cherkva); up to 800 m.

General distribution. Seldom in Europe and North America (USA, Canada).

Threats. Habitat loss and degradation due to forest cutting and other activities in the forests.

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Survey and monitoring of the area of occupancy, the status of the population and the threats; sustainable management and conservation of the habitat and of the known location.
