Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(ii,iv)].

Morphology and biology. Fruit-bodies annual or biennial, pileate-resupinate, 2–15 × 0.2–3 × 0.2–15 cm, usually effused and tile-like situated; sterile surface unequal, white to yellowish brown at first, then grey; margin repand; context cream. Pore surface whitish to light brown; pores angular, thin-walled 1–3 mm diameter, sometimes lamellate. Hyphal system dimitic. Cystidia lacking. Basidia clavate, 28–37 × 9–10 µm; spores cylindrical, 8–12.5 × 3.5–5.5 µm, colourless. VI–XII.

Habitats and populations. In conifer forests mainly on stems and branches of spruce (Picea) and fir (Abies).

Distribution in Bulgaria. Rila Mts (Rila National Park – Parangalitsa Strict Nature Reserve).

General distribution. Europe, Asia, North America.

Threats. Habitat loss/degradation caused by agriculture (wood plantations) and extraction (selective logging).

Conservation measures taken. Included in the Red List of Fungi in Bulgaria. The known locality is situated in the Parangalitsa Strict Nature Reserve and in a site of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.

Conservation measures needed. Study of the population numbers and range; interpretation of species status through better understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of the habitat; study of the trends through monitoring.
