Conservation status. Endangered [EN B2ab(iv)].
Morphology and biology. Annual plant. Stems 8–35 cm, simple or branched, appressed-pubescent. Leaves 1–2-pinnatisect. Capitula 1.5–3 cm in diameter, ligulae white, up to 12 mm, tubular florets yellow. Involucre pubescent, phyllaries oblanceolate, with pale brown margins, shortly acuminate. Achenes 1.5–2 mm long; corona auriculate, 0.5–1.7 mm long of the outer achenes as long as the achene). Fl. V–VII, fr. VI–IX. Insect pollination. Reproduction by seeds.
Habitats and populations. Grasslands, often stony places, roadsides, sometimes as a weed in arable land. There are no recent data about the localities and population status. According to Kuzmanov (1984) the populations consist of a small numbers of individuals.
Distribution in Bulgaria. Valley of Struma River (Petrich town region, Kresnenski Prolom gorge), Pirin Mts (above Sinanitsa forest station), Rhodopi Mts (eastern), Thracian Lowland (near Karlovo); up to 1500 m alt.
General distribution. E Mediterranean and S Balkan Peninsula.
Threats. Limited distribution; unknown factors may also threaten the species populations, but insufficient data.
Conservation measures taken. None.
Conservation measures needed. Further studies to establish the current status of the species in the country and the negative factors.
Note. Stojanov et al. (1955) reported the species from Ivailovgrad area, collected on 27.05.1954, but the herbarium voucher of the same date is labelled from Momchilgrad area. Thin (1980) and Kuzmanov (1984) accepted the species locality near Momchilgrad, but Stojanov et al. (1967) accepted the one for Ivailovgrad area.
